The Veteran Doula's Tale



Hello! I'm Dominique Edwards, fondly known as "Dom the Veteran Doula." I hail from the vibrant city of Paterson, NJ, where my journey of compassion and service began. In 2011, I took a leap into the unknown and joined the military, proudly serving for 13 enriching years.


During my military tenure, I pursued my passion for justice at Berkeley College in Woodland Park, NJ, earning a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. My heart has always been drawn to the helping profession, whether working with the homeless or at-risk youth. It's here that I discovered my calling—a purpose that drives me to make a meaningful difference.


While stationed in the beautiful state of Hawaii, I embarked on a transformative journey to become a doula. Those late nights and early mornings were a labor of love, culminating in my certification as a Full-Spectrum Community Doula in September 2022.


Now, as "Dom the Veteran Doula," my mission is to help you welcome new life with care and empowerment. I am working to help bridge the gap between hospitals by fostering strong relationships with doulas and medical personnel, ensuring every birth experience is as smooth and supportive as possible. I'm thrilled to be a part of your journey and look forward to assisting you in creating beautiful moments filled with love and joy.

🌿 Our Story — Where the Village Took Root Founded in 2022, The Cheniah 22 Project LLC began with one purpose: to create a space where growing families could feel seen, heard, supported, and never alone. What started as a commitment to compassionate full-spectrum doula care has grown into something much bigger—a Village rooted in education, advocacy, birth justice, emotional support, and community.


Cheniah 22 was created to walk alongside individuals and families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, loss, transition, and the many moments in between. As the vision grew, so did the Village. From those roots came Phalon’s Promise™, the birth-support experience of The Cheniah 22 Project.


Inspired by the love, loyalty, comfort, and steady companionship that Phalon represents, the Promise reflects what families deserve from their doula care: a consistent presence, a respected voice, informed choices, and support that doesn't disappear when the journey gets hard.


Today, The Cheniah 22 Project continues to evolve beyond a doula service into a community-centered maternal and family support movement—one built intentionally, one family at a time.
